Lauren Smith Camera  is currently education reporter at U.S. News & World Report. She’s covered education policy and politics for nearly a decade and has written for Education Week, The Hechinger Report, Congressional Quarterly, Roll Call, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.

During her 2013 Spencer Education Fellow year,  she conducted a reporting project about the impact of the Obama administration’s competitive education grant, Race to the Top. Her series was published in Education Week.

She has been featured on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers,” ABC’s “Capitol Insider,” and Sirius XM’s POTUS channel to talk about the inner workings of Congress and lawmakers’ efforts to move different education bills.

Before coming to CQ Roll Call, Lauren wrote about education issues for several publications, including U.S. News and World Report and Edutopia. She previously wrote for the Chronicle of Higher Education, documenting the Virginia Tech massacre as well as working with a team that uncovered the private student loan scandal in 2007.

Lauren earned her M.S. in print journalism from Boston University’s School of Communication, and spent her final semester at the university’s Washington Journalism Program. She earned her B.A. from Colby College.
