Lauren Smith Camera is the education policy staff writer at CQ Roll Call, formerly Congressional Quarterly, where she tracks trends in pre-K, K-12 and higher education within Congress and the Obama administration. She has been featured on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers,” ABC’s “Capitol Insider,” and Sirius XM’s POTUS channel to talk about the inner workings of Congress and lawmakers’ efforts to move different education bills.

Before coming to CQ Roll Call, Lauren wrote about education issues for several publications, including U.S. News and World Report and Edutopia. She previously wrote for the Chronicle of Higher Education, documenting the Virginia Tech massacre as well as working with a team that uncovered the private student loan scandal in 2007.

Lauren earned her M.S. in print journalism from Boston University’s School of Communication, and spent her final semester at the university’s Washington Journalism Program. She earned her B.A. from Colby College.

Lauren lives with her husband and dog, Ruby, in Washington, D.C.
